Bally's Wednesday 3/28 ~ Hips Don't Lie

I know this is often dreaded by most men, because the way men's bodies are built are much different than women's (ha - obviously), but that does not mean yoga discriminates!

This week's focus will be on hips, particularly hip-opening poses, hip-squaring, and hip-stacking. Sound scary? haha it's not nearly as painful as it sounds. Of course, modifications abound. So join me and others in a vigorous power yoga class this Wednesday evening, and perhaps shimmy a little... ha ha

Bally's Wednesday 3/21 ~ Renew and Recharge for Spring

Spring is in the air... well, at least officially it is, regardless of what it looks and feels like outside.

For this Wednesday's class, we'll be focusing on our flexibility more so than we have in the past. This class will lengthen and open every part of our bodies through deep stretches and twists. New poses and modifications will be introduced, as well as a new breathing technique called kapalabhati pranayama (breath of fire), which induces internal cleansing and clearing out or air passages.

This class is all about renewing and recharging our bodies, minds, and spirits to prepare ourselves for the new season. If you've always wanted to introduce your friends or families to yoga, this would be a great class to do so. If you have any suggestions prior to class, please let me know!

I look forward to seeing you there... bring your energy and smiles!

BTW, I just realized that all along, I've been using May dates instead of March. ha ha - I'm jumping ahead already...

Bally's Wednesday 5/14 ~ A New Look On the World Through Inversions

For this Wednesday's practice, we will be seeing the world in a whole new perspective, literally!

Throughout the class, we will prepare our minds and bodies to culminate towards sirsasana (headstand - one of my favorite poses!). For preparation, we will begin with sun salutations to warm up the body and bring up the heart rates. Since a headstand requires tremendous stability and strength from our core to remain balanced, we will then work on our core with some ab and lower back poses.

Headstands are seductive poses - physically challenging, visually dramatic, exhilirating, and empowering all at the same time. Of course, not all of us are ready for headstands (and believe me, that time will come), so there will be modifications for the headstand, and when/if you are ready, we can work towards the full headstand.

See you then!

Bally's Wednesday 5/7 ~ Quads, Hams, and Glutes!

Tomorrow, we will be focusing on our lower bodies, particularly the larger muscle groups such as quadriceps through lunges and chair poses, hamstrings through warrior poses, and glutes through balancing poses.

We will continue with our Ashtanga sun salutations for warm-up and throughout the class as our cardio portion. I'm looking forward to our practice tomorrow... been so busy lately, so it will be a much-needed escape.

The new website will be up and running very soon, and I guarantee it to be better than ever! I'm very excited for it, and I hope for it to be a resource to complement our practice. I will keep you posted!

Hope to see you tomorrow!!!
