Bally's Wednesday 3/28 ~ Hips Don't Lie

I know this is often dreaded by most men, because the way men's bodies are built are much different than women's (ha - obviously), but that does not mean yoga discriminates!

This week's focus will be on hips, particularly hip-opening poses, hip-squaring, and hip-stacking. Sound scary? haha it's not nearly as painful as it sounds. Of course, modifications abound. So join me and others in a vigorous power yoga class this Wednesday evening, and perhaps shimmy a little... ha ha

Tonight's class was definitely a full house (all 17 of you with several new faces too), and that's always a sure sign of participants enjoying the class, so I love it when I see returning smiley faces.

Although we incorporate hip-openers in pretty much every single class, tonight's focus was more on the position of our hips, as well as some tough hip-openings, which by the look on some of your faces, I take it was painful. The goal of tonight's class was to really understand and feel the difference between "hip-opening", "hip-squaring", and "hip-stacking" -- terms we often hear in yoga classes. As you begin to understand where your hips should be, you begin to fall deeper and deeper in the poses.

Overall, I thought the format of the class was okay. It wasn't one of my best. I am often too critical of myself anyway, but I thought last week's class gave me a sense of pure relaxation and limberness in my body at the end of the class. Perhaps it was the effect of backbends. Anyway, it was definitely a challenging class (as always).

Last week and this week's class, we took out sun salutations. What did you think of that? Do you want to see them back? Let me know.... please! :)
