Wednesday (6/13) ~ Pincha Mayurasana (Forearm Balance)

Pincha Mayurasana also known as the forearm balance will be this week's peak pose. Don't be discouraged if you feel you are not ready for this pose yet as there will be a variety of modifications.

As Cyndi Lee, a renown yoga instructor from NYC, states about balancing poses:

"Inversions like Pincha Mayurasana present wonderful opportunities for profound physical and mental transformation, but they're also rife with obstacles. Begin by simply noticing the obstacles that keep you from going upside down easily. When you acknowledge these blocks, you have something to work with, and a pathway to new possibilities reveals itself. You can nudge things along by cultivating meditative awareness and breaking inversions down into smaller, easier steps. This makes the goal of "perfection" less important; instead you can work creatively and enjoy the journey, no matter how long it takes."

This class will have the same format with warm-ups, wave sequences, and preparatory poses for Pincha Mayurasana. I have included a link here that describes the pose as well as a step-by-step instructions to doing the pose if you were interested in getting a headstart.
Click here for instructions for Pincha Mayurasana.

I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday, and come with ideas about notifications for Sunday AM outdoor classes as this weekend was a bummer!
Cheers!

I was quite impressed by everyone overcoming any fears and gracefully flowing into Pincha Mayurasana. It took me almost 6 years to do that pose and still find myself hesitant doing the pose in the middle of the room.

As you may have noticed, the format of the class remains the same, but rather the sequences and poses that occupy within those formats change each class depending upon the theme or peak pose. I would be interested in your feedback regarding the format of the class. What do you feel about the wave sequences, or the mandala namaskar (where we perform poses in sequence and eventually facing the back wall), or even the cool down poses? Do you feel the class could use more stretching and less flowing?

As mentioned tonight, perhaps restorative yoga class can take place during Sunday's AM outdoor class. I will post a notification on Saturday if class will take place this Sunday, so do check back. Also, if there are certain poses you would like to see this Sunday or next Wednesday, please let me know! I will accomodate everywhere however I can.

Lastly, last two classes, attendance has been less than usual, so I hoping that I am not detering people away. If you feel there could be improvements to the class, please let me know because your feedback is what keeps me going and what makes our practice so much fun!

Thanks again for energy and enthusiasm!

I love how the class is and the difficulty level. Because it is hard, I feel like I have accomplished something by the end of the class.

It was a really good class! There were enough challenges, but also enough modifications, that I felt comfortable going between the poses & modifications, and still got to try some new poses!
