Bally's Wednesday 4/04 ~ Bending it Backwards

Most people dread backbends because it is creates immense discomfort, but also requires tremendous stamina and focus. However, backbends, though discomforting the first few times we practice it, can provide a great deal of relief to any tension and ongoing pains we get in our lower backs. Furthermore, backbends ignite the heart chakra by opening the chest and our hearts allowing ourselves to open to greater self-acceptance of ourselves and others.
For this class, we will be working towards backbending poses which will allow us to acknowledge the sensations and freedom these poses inspire.

I'm thinking of bringing back sun salutations, what do you think? :)

See you on Wednesday! As always, bring your positive energy, enthusiastic dedication, and smiles to class...

I presume it was due to poor weather conditions that attendance was smaller than usual, and every now and then, smaller classes are great. It's a lot easier for me to focus and provide individual attention than in larger settings.

As always, it was great to see all familiar faces each and every week. Last night's class was challenging as usual. Backbends are always challenging for me because it requires so much flexibility in the lower back as well as chests and shoulders. Not only that, it demands a steady focus and immense stamina, but the feeling of release in child's pose is unlike any other. It's almost like getting a soothing back massage.

This morning, I am certainly feeling the after effects of the class, especially in the lower back and shoulders. Plow pose would feel really good right now, except it would probably be inappropriate me for to get on the floor at work and do yoga - ha ha.

I hope you guys and gals enjoyed the class. Again, I will not be here next week as I'll be away for Shiva Rea!!!! but will return on 4/18 inspired... so look out! :)
