Twisting poses can be challenging, sensational, and requires intense focus and even flexibility and strength in the core. I find that twisting poses "wring" ourselves of any toxins mentally and/or physically and brings us back to a neutral state.Indian yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar describes twists as a "squeeze-and-soak" action: The organs are compressed during a twist, pushing out blood filled with metabolic by-products and toxins. When we release the twist, fresh blood flows in, carrying oxygen and the building blocks for tissue healing. So from the physiological standpoint, twists stimulate circulation and have a cleansing and refreshing effect on the torso organs and associated glands.
During this class, we will warm-up with some twisting asanas, followed by sun salutations, and right into our wave sequence. Throughout the waves, you will notice several twisting variations to bring attention to our core. Finally, after the wave sequence, we will follow-up with abdominal work, vinyasa flow, and some cool-down stretches.

Thanks for your patience and energy tonight! I understand that I run over time every now and then (okay, maybe more than often), but it is extremely difficult to teach an effective yoga class in one hour. Going forward, I promise to plan a class that is contained within the expected one hour - I will at least try very, very hard.
Tonight, we had a large class of 15 people - 2 of which were new to yoga (or perhaps new to me). New people are always welcomed and encouraged. Abdominal work was offered after savasana which I found complemented twisting asanas. I hope those who stayed enjoyed the ab work, while those who had to leave didn't feel they missed out on anything.
As for yoga outdoors, I would like to start next Sunday should nice weather prevail. I think the best way to coordinate such an event is via e-mail, so if you are interested, please send me your contact info.
For now, I plan on Sunday morning (10AM) classes along the park on the Mystic River, but the day and time are tentative.
